Gabriela Sierra

Born in Mexico City on May 12, 1982, she is a graduate of Universidad del Valle de México where she obtained her law degree in 2008.

With over 6 years of experience, her practice is mainly focused to mining and corporate law.

In the mining area, Miss Sierra has been permanently involved in drafting agreements, calculation of mining duties and calculation of amounts for purposes of the filing of proof of assessment work reports.

Likewise she has an important experience in carrying out searches to determine the legal status of mining concessions, as well as in the elaboration of reports to that effect.

Alberto M. Vazquez

Born in Mexico City on December 29, 1971, he is a graduate of Universidad La Salle where he obtained his law degree in 1996 by publishing his thesis “Expropriation as a right derived from Mining Concessions”.

With more than 20 years of experience, his practice is focused on corporate law, mining, migratory, foreign investments and community relationships.

Mr. Vazquez has been permanently involved in the establishment of Mexican companies, corporate management of mercantile companies, as well as drafting agreements in general and representing important corporate foreign groups with business in Mexico.

In relation to mining issues, he has carried on important negotiations to access superficial lands where the concessions are located, having also a vast experience in drafting and negotiating contracts that involve mining concession rights, as well as mining corporations in general and relationship with communities.

Mr. Vazquez is also a skilled lawyer in migration matters, which includes the obtainment of immigration documents for foreign executives from different nationalities who have come to work in our country.

He is an active partner of the Mexican Mining, Metallurgy and Geology Engineer Association, A.C., member of work groups organized by the Mexican Mining Chamber (CAMIMEX) and the General Direction of Mining Promotion of the Ministry of Economy.

He has been invited as speaker in local seminars related to mining law issues and has written several articles for magazines specialized in mining and environmental law.

Julio Young

Julio Young joined Fernandez Young & Associates in 1993 and is the firm’s Tax Partner. He is also a director of FY International and a member of its International Tax Advisory Group. Prior to joining FYA, he was a Corporate Controller with a prominent real estate development company located in Vancouver, British Columbia. As a partner in Fernandez, Young & Associates, Julio is involved in tax planning in all areas of personal, corporate and estate taxation, in particular, advising on real estate tax issues and establishment of resident and non-resident trusts and offshore corporations for professionals and owner managers with cross border transactions. As a member of the Tax Group of FY International, Julio coordinates and participates in the delivery of services to Latin America and other non-resident clients seeking international tax advice. His fluency in Spanish and Cantonese gives him an advantage in advising non-resident clients on the most effective structures for carrying business in Canada. Julio obtained his CGA designation in 1987, and continues to maintain the highest professional development standards, in particular he is a graduate of the two-year CICA In-Depth Tax Course.

Jim Fernandez

Mr. Fernandez is an Accountant / Auditor with 25 years of experience. During this time his clients have included but have not been limited to corporations which usually have a strong international component. This has allowed him to develop a strong expertise in multinational operations around the globe. Today he is the auditor for publicly listed companies with mining or alternative energy operations in the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe.

In addition under Mr. Fernandez’ direction his firm is currently assisting its own clients and the clients of other local firms on the process of conversion into IFRS. The firm is also assisting various medium and small sized accounting firms in the Vancouver area on the development of better quality control procedures. Mr. Fernandez is part of the British Columbia Public Practice Advisory Group of the Certified General Accountant Association, a group which evaluates and implements regulatory changes to the profession.

Mr. Fernandez has an extensive education history; he completed a bachelor degree in Food Processing Engineering, a Masters degree in Business Administration and Designations as Certified General Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner as well as completing the Chartered Business Valuator educational program.
